The arrival of 2016/2017 Batch B corp members.

On that sunny day of 14th December 2016, the batch A corp members of Ogbolomambiri, Nembe City were full of excitement and zest in anticipation for the arrival of the new Batch B stream 1 Corp member who were to arrive from camp.
This triggered a series of activities which included a general sanitation, held on the day before, the preparation of delicious meals by the welfare coordinator with the help of few volunteers, on that day, and the setting in order of the pavilion A. K. A common room, with  sound system put in place, by the Director of Social ,corper Beejay.
The D. O. S Contacted the C. L. O ,corper W. Amonigha  from time to time and returned the feedback to the house as to how close she had approached with the New Corp members. The band was ready as the Batch A Corp members warmed up to go enmass to welcome the 'Otondos' as new corp members are usually addressed.
Shortly afterwards, the P. R. O sounded the time at which corp members were expected to move. At about 4:30pm, Batch A corp members in 1/7, that is NYsc cap on mufty, moved into action. Drumming, singing and dancing,  they all headed to the journey wearied New Corp members had already alighted , carried their luggage and danced back to the Corpers lodge.
Meanwhile, the chief whip of the Bassambiri Corpers lodge had come to take those who were posted to Bassambiri along.
Refreshments followed the introduction of corp members as they awaited to be officially signed into the Ogbolomambiri corpers lodge.

The Duty of A Corper.

Golden rays of the eastern sunlight Brushes through my half awakened face with soft caresses of warmness
It is yet another dawn in Nembe city
The kitchens are warming up again pans and spoons collide in oneness footfall ascend and descend the walkways
In a bid to break the long night fast
The crowing of the cock is long forgotten
The blowing of the bugle and whistles as well
But the school bell would never hesitate to ring
Tick, tick says the clock, compatriots be on the watch
And soon the assemblies Nexted by classes
In nurture of the young the rising stars
whips lashing and voices echoing instructions
It is the duty we are called for
The duty of a corper.

LATEST UPDATE ON NYSC RELOCATION REQUIRMENTS

Although it is blinding on every corps member to render his /her selfless service in any past of the country where he is posted, Relocation can be granted if one fits into or meets the following requirements.
  •    The corps member must be either married or pregnant and she must present her marriage certificate.
  •         Relocation is granted if a corps member has a serious health condition which requires regular check –up.

NOTE: The corps member must present a valid medical report issued by a state or Teaching Hospital from his/her state of origin that is endorsed by a medical Doctor.
Furthermore it is more reassuring to know that NYSC is easily granted within four to six months of your reporting to your place of primary Assignment (PPA) owning  to the fact that NYSC tend to pay more attention on the upcoming next batch ‘s PPAs and welfare than of those who are already serving.

So with the above listed criteria there is nothing to worry about. If the initial application for relocation was not granted you can try a second time and by God’s grace it will work.

THE DEPARTURE OF BATCH B CORP MEMBERS

A few days before the 6th of October 2016, the batch B stream I corp members had washed their stoves and cooking utensils, cleaned their bags and packed them preparing for the long awaited day to arrive. The walls of the common room passage of the corpers lodge had been plastered with white sheets of paper where each displayed eulogies/ panegyrics free hand drawing, farewell poems and good wishesTo the departing corp members .Men had written from the depth of their hearts, expressing their thoughts and feeling towards the Batch B corp members making known to them how greatly they would be missed.
Eventually, the day came .At  about 6:05am  three eighteen seater bus arrived the Nembe city Ogbolomambiri corpers lodge hug gage rolled out to greet them as all thirsty corp members kitted in 6/7moved out with joy to join the buses. Only then did all really realize that it wasn’t a dream. They were actually leaving. Smiles went sour and eyes dripped with tears. The Batch A corp members all stood around the buses until they would all fill up lingering hugs followed quick exchange of motion; the Batch A corp members sadly chorused and waved goodbye and safe journey to the Batch Bs all reciprocated in one accord.
Among the left behind Batch A corp members many wept and screamed in loud voices, both real and faked. All the same the difference was clear as the corpers lodge become cold and scanty. A few corpers eventually lamented over the lodge’s immediate quietness and indeed were sorry that the Batch Bs actually had to go.
Frankly speaking, this event marked a necessary end for a new dawn in the lives of the Batch B corp members who stepped their foot on the soil of Nembe city some eleven months before as nothing but “Gentlemen corp members on National Assignment” most of them had served in the education sector, giving them the privilege to impact to the younger generation as well as gain the experience of the tutorship, independence and separation from family and friends.

The NYSC Scheme has really achieved much in promoting inter-tribal integration among and real life exposure to the Nigerian youths after leaving the confines of the ivory walls systematically introducing them to “adulthood” and the responsibility that surrounds it in the larger society. Many thanks to NYSC.
